Develop your own personal eye and language as you discover principles of observation, composition, shading and mark-making. We will explore a variety of drawing techniques and ideas including observational drawing, comics, journaling, and mindfulness. Class will include demos and group discussion of prompts and ideas. Students will receive individual guidance and feedback to support their creative goals. Students will keep an art journal or sketchbook for exploration during and between classes. Drawing experience is helpful but the only requirement is a willingness to explore and experiment. Please check the DAC website for supply list. Brianna Gribben, Instructor 20SP105.1 Mondays, 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM March 23 – May 11 (6 weeks) $81 Colored Pencil (Ages 16 & up) Want to add color to your drawings? Colored pencil is an exciting next step in advancing drawing skills or when moving from drawing into painting. It is a portable, relaxing, beautiful medium that requires minimal supplies and can be done in a small space. This course includes experience with the materials and techniques such as layering, blending, color mixing and more. We will work on a variety of subject matter from the Plant and Animal Kingdoms as well as objects found in everyday life. The class is made up of demonstrations, exercises, discussion, critique and work time. Please check the DAC website for supply list. Kate Lagaly, Instructor 20SP110.1 Thursdays, 12:30 PM – 3:30 PM April 30 – May 28 (5 weeks) $135 or two payments of $67.50 OPEN STUDIO HOURS FOR PAINTING AND DRAWING STUDENTS! Students registered in painting and drawing classes have access to the Prince Graphics Studio to work independently. Please call 919-560-2726 at least 36 hours in advance to access the studio. Open studio hours are: Tuesdays 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM Thursday 1:00 – 5:00 PM Saturdays 10:00 – 2:00 PM HOURS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE. DAC ADULT CLASSES Figure Drawing (Ages 16 & up) This class combines practice and personal expression with instruction and critique. Students sketch from a live, nude model in short poses (a few seconds to a few minutes) and long poses (up to 30 minutes). Lessons focus on specific skills: process, gesture, shading, mark- making, proportion, anatomy and composition. Each lesson begins with examples, demos and group instruction and includes guided practice, individual and group critique. For homework, students study and copy the master drawings provided.
